Sandro is in his third year of mechanical engineering. He joined AlbertaSat in October of 2023 after hearing about it at a club fair. He had an interest in aerospace engineering and believed that AlbertaSat is a valuable opportunity to work on satellites with other students that are interested in space. His role in AlbertaSat includes co-project manager for CMD-SAT for the CAN-RGX Design Challenge. In this role, he completes mechanical tasks and manages the team’s finances and outreach. For this experiment, the focus is designing hinges for Ex-Alta 3 as well as for future CubeSats.

Sandro has a variety of hobbies he enjoys outside of University and AlbertaSat. He is involved with extracurriculars involving music such as playing guitar and bass. He also enjoys playing sports such as basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Sandro finds himself looking to his role models to gain motivation. One of these role models is Sandro’s fellow AlbertaSat member, Lauren. Lauren encouraged Sandro to take on the project lead role for CMD-SAT, allowing him to develop as a leader. Lauren also assisted Sandro in team management, learning, and growth. He also attributes much of his success to his parents as well. Because of their support, Sandro always strives to push himself and be his best version.

Sandro sees himself working in the aerospace industry in the near future, particularly abroad in Europe or the United States, where he can continuously learn and contribute to innovative projects that he is passionate about. He advises new members of AlbertaSat to actively connect with other team members and seek out opportunities by asking questions and staying curious. Sandro recommends approaching upper-level teammates for guidance and tasks that align with their interests. He emphasized that if you look in the right places, there are lots of people who will be willing to help you learn and grow!

Fun fact about Sandro which not many people know: He has a slight fear of heights! It’s safe to say that he’ll keep himself grounded as his terrific designs shoot for the stars.
